Traveling around the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 by train or bus is a great way how to explore this country on your own. And not only because you can look out a window and watch the landscape around. Here are my 10 reasons why I find traveling by public transport in Czechia awesome. Do you agree?
1. You can get anywhere
I’m in my 30s now, and I’ve never owned a car because I’ve never really needed it. Almost every little town or village in the Czech Republic is accessible thanks to a very dense network of both railway and bus routes.
Would you believe that there are over 2000 railway stations and thousands of bus stops in this small country? 🤓
Moreover, after you get off and look around, you’ll probably find a signpost of a marked hiking trail nearby. It will lead you to your trip’s destination!
2. It’s cheap
Traveling by public transport in Czechia is pretty reasonable. In addition to this, there are a lot of discounts and other special offers available. So, you don’t have to worry about your budget.
3. It’s safe
You don’t have to be scared of traveling solo. Generally speaking, Czechia is a very safe country. On a local train or bus, you will meet a diverse mixture of people from different social groups. Young people, old people, blue-collars, white-collars, families, children heading off to school. As always, while traveling, keep an eye on your belongings, and everything will be OK.
4. You will immerse yourself in the culture
Traveling together with locals will help you get to know Czech people, their culture and customs. Even if you don’t speak the language, you can get quite a good impression of what are the local people like.
5. You can meet interesting people
Traveling is not only about taking pictures. On your journey, you can experience unexpected situations and run into amazing people. You will make great memories. And you will have a story to tell! You never know, such an encounter may even become the beginning of a new friendship!
6. You don’t have to walk the same way back
That’s what I really love about going on a trip by train or bus. You can end your journey somewhere else than you’ve started it! Once you don’t have to get back to your car, you have more options for planning your trip. And you can see way more things!
7. You don’t have to look for a parking space
Sometimes, it can take a while to find a good parking spot for your car. Especially if you want to start your trip somewhere in the middle of nowhere, where no parking lots are available. It’s not a problem if you arrive by public transport!
8. You can read or write
While on the bus or train, you can use the time for reading, looking into a map, writing your travel journal, or checking pictures you’ve just taken. So why should you waste your time driving?
9. You can take a nap
Did you have to get up early because you wanted to catch an early-morning train? Or are you tired after a long hike? You don’t have to drive, so make yourself comfortable and close your eyes! But don’t forget to set an alarm! 😅
10. It’s eco-friendly
Last but not least – travel by public transport rather than by car is good for the environment. Leave your car at home and get on a train or bus instead!
So, are you on board with me yet? ☺️
